Kazooie’s Bad Strange Day

An game which was to be about an innocent breegull named Kazooie, who usually gets into rather drunken adventures and often gets into bad situations, ala Conker’s Bad Fur Day.. only with a breegull as main character instead of a squirrel. The ironic fact is, that development didn’t start that way. Rather, it was to be about an anthromorphic bird named Happser the Woodpecker in a colorful world… what the plot was gonna be like i can’t remember very well. Anyway, how came it the game changed direction so early on, only to stop in the end? Well, the story goes…

In the middle of september 2006, i started working on this game, ”Lovingly” named Happser the Woodpeckers Toony Tales. At the time, development gone rather slow, and in 2006/09/22 i had a demo ready(was still in school at the time).  When i showed it in school(along with some other projects), there was some negative response about it’s rather short length(only 1 level, heh.), and some other stuff i can’t remember. Felt a bit insulted by hearing this nonsense at first… In 2006/11/02, development picked up again, and the game were renamed ”Happser The Woodpeckers Quest”. There was still only 1 level in the game, though. I had to put it aside to be able to work on other projects, and time went on…

Now, fast forward to February 2007(no exact date given). I’ve caught the flu(cough, cough!!). I wasn’t feeling well at all. It almost felt like i were slowly dying. Days later, i felt a bit better, but still had the flu. At this point i just got into playing Conker’s Bad Fur Day, and suddenly a few more days later i was hit on the head, and started to work on an new game project; Kazooie’s Very Bad Awful Day(named after an mature comic i did, with the main character being my Kazooie character).  Development ceased in about just a few hours after it was started.

In March 6 2007(From what much i can remember), i was feeling frustrated and utterly depressed. I needed to make a mature game, so i took the Happser demo and, believe or not, but i changed the sprites of the main character, redrew the background graphics, and voilá, in about a flash it turned into Kazooie’s Bad Stupid Day. From there on i was all focused on this project, nothing could literally stop me from turning it even more mature. Development went pretty smooth, and it started to come all together. At first it wasn’t to be a remake of Bad Fur Day, but as time went on, it did so. Later on, it became apparent i was running into some serious file size problems, and being tired of waiting for over 2-3 mins to test something in the game, i went on to reduce it’s size by removing some uncompressed audio from the game  to be able to work more fast on it. All went well till i started some new projects(using this game for base), one of them being some Ren ‘n Stimpy esqué one(which are covered on another page devoted to it).

Now forward to 2008, things certainly couldn’t get any worse. I almost got the entire thing done, but as i was lacking the neccessary resources to make a conker esqué game(i.e sound effects, voices, etc.), it’s development slowed down about a quarter. I began focus more less on the game due to my recent devotion towards on hacking Conker. At the same time i began development of yet another Kazooie game(Which by now is still in the works); Kazooie in The Treasure Land, an game unrelated to this. At the near end of the year, the game received yet another name change, now being ”Kazooie’s Bad Strange Day”.

In and during the course of 2009, despite some unfortunate and saddening events in real life which had happened, i continued it’s development. But yet again i encountered problems as i did some modifications to the games workings. During the near end of the games development, i thought the game wasn’t much of an remake of Bad Fur Day, and thus began focus on making the game a little different to what i first had planned. In the end, at December 18 2009, after an enourmous number of problems and issues, development of the project finally ended, with the final build being in a rather buggy, and glitchy state. In 2010, i made it clear to W-64 in a SMS that i finally had scrapped Kazooie’s Bad Strange Day for good…

Looking back, i somehow regret scrapping work of this game, and i wish i could restart it again someday. But it was probably for my best that i abandoned it. If i didn’t, i would’ve probably not been here on the internet today, nor would i have been hacking Conker for unused stuff and the like.
